Primark Is Opening Its First Ever Pop-Up Store Here In London, Today

Budget store Primark is opening its first ever pop-up store, at Boxpark Shoreditch.

The temporary shop marks the launch of Primark's new Wellness collection, with 75 products from the range available to buy ahead of its official launch at the end of February.

The range's mantra is 'comfort, rest, and reflection', three words rarely associated with the usually-chaotic Primark shopping experience.

While the pop-up is significantly smaller than the chain's usual high street shops, it is stocking products across womenswear, menswear, homeware and skincare. Primark is at pains to highlight the sustainability aspect of the new range — all products in the Wellness collection are made using either organic cotton, or recycled or sustainable materials.

The shop itself uses wooden fixtures, cardboard hangers and recyclable display panels, in a bid to improve perceptions of the brand's ethics and sustainability practices, which have been brought into question in the past.

Primark is at Boxpark Shoreditch, 18 February-8 March 2020.

Welcome to your SS20 denim edit

All the denim styles you need to know about.

A new pair of jeans is always the coolest way to update your wardrobe, regardless of the season. However, finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a tricky business. Skinny jeans that are too baggy, cropped jeans that are too long, high waisted jeans that are too tight at the waist and wide at the hips… there are so many factors to take into account.

With that in mind, I’ve scoured my favoured designer and high street denim brands to find the perfect pair of jeans to suit your body shape, and scroll down for a lowdown on the best jean trends for the new season.

Best high waisted jeans

High waisted flared jeans are a safe investment for this season. Models at Dior team theirs slogan t-shirts and Breton tops, while at Calvin Klein, it’s a colour block shirt and double denim situation. That style is best suited to tall girls, while petite and curvier frames can bank on high waisted mum jeans or culottes.

Best mom jeans

Mom jeans are very much in, as are dad jeans, the new update on the style. Again, pick a wider leg, preferably in a light wash, 80s style. Wear with a tucked-in t-shirt and converse for a casual look, and swap for a loose blouse and white ankle boots for a dressier option. Style tip for the AW19 season: tuck your jeans into knee high boots.

Best skinny jeans

There’s something timeless and versatile about a pair of classic black jeans, especially paired with a roll-neck, checked blazer and headband, Sloane-ranger style.

As with most trends, it’s all about proportion, so balance tights jeans with a loose top, though a Breton t-shirt and ballerina pumps are also great additions to dark blue skinny jeans, Audrey Hepburn style.

Best jeans for curvy women

Just because you’re curvy doesn’t mean you can’t wear skinny jeans, or any other style for that matter, it’s all down to the waist. A high waist will be more flattering, and if you’re after a 50s style silhouette, flared cropped jeans will do wonders.

Best jeans for tall women

Tall women are lucky in that they can get away with a lot of styles. Long wide leg trousers, skinny jeans, cropped culottes… take your pic. Plus, lots of brands like Levi’s and Topshop offer tall styles, so you really are spoiled for choice.

Best jeans for short women

These days, most brands have an offering of jeans in different lengths, which is heaven for petite girls like me – I used to have to attack my jeans with scissors to make them fit. My go-to are still Topshop jeans for any style – it’s no wonder they sell a pair of these jeans every 10 seconds, they really do go with everything.

While skinny jeans are always a safe bet, cropped styles look really good on short women too. There’s something about seeing a flash of ankle that elongates the frame. Try cropped straight leg or wide leg styles.

Ripped jeans

Ripped jeans are a wardrobe staple that’s well worth investing in. This season though, they are discreet, with just a small rip on the knee or thigh, or a ripped hem. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even rip your own jeans using our DIY guide.

How often to wash your jeans

While we’re on the subject, let’s get one thing straight: you probably ARE washing your jeans too often, so stop. Because you don’t want to lose the stiffness and therefore shape of the jeans, it’s usually best to wash them every fortnight or monthly instead, and forget about washing them straight after you’ve bought them too. Some people store theirs in the freezer too, though the jury’s still out on that one.

So now that you’re an expert on all things denim, scroll down to for my edit of the best jeans to buy now.

The best designer handbags to treat yourself to this season

From super-sized totes, bumbags and micro-pouches to timeless classics, shop our pick of the best new season designer handbags

best designer handbags

There’s nothing like treating yourself to a new season buy, and I can’t think of a better way than with a designer handbag that not only ticks all the SS20 trends,, but will last you a lifetime too – in other words, the perfect investment. Now I appreciate it’s a big purchase, so to save you time and effort, I’ve rounded-up the best designer handbags from the new season that suit all tastes, styles, daily needs and budgets (yes, really).

If there is one piece worthy of investment each season, it has to be a designer handbag (and if you don’t believe me, some brands like Chanel are literally a better financial investment than gold). And while many designers are on-trend with their offering, there are also some classic styles that never go out of fashion out there too.

The best arm candy for SS20 ranges from the super-sized, with the coolest carry-alls in every colour, prints and texture imaginable – to must-have micros, the cute bags that are tiny yet perfectly formed. Invest in these for minimal effort, with maximum impact – Fendi and Jacquemus have some great picks.

We’re keeping things tonal this season and investing in some pretty arm candy in earthy tones, with a touch of cream and butter yellow – Strathberry, Yuzefi and Chloé have some divine options.

If your heart is set on something a little sleeker and modern, then do check out designs by Bottega Veneta (the brand everyone’s talking about right now), LOEWE and ACNE.

You also can’t go wrong with a classic Mulberry or Stella McCartney – these beautiful bags will pay for themselves when you work out the cost per wear.

Alexander McQueen’s new it bag, The Story, is also a safe bet if you’re looking for a go-with-everything bag, and it’s available in classic colours as well as more fashion-forward ones. Celebs such as Charlize Theron and Kaia Gerber are already fans.

If your budget doesn’t quite stretch, there are so many cool contemporary brands offering handbags for £300 or under. I’m personally a massive fan of Manu Atelier, STAUD and for something a little more retro, Rixo. Finally, if you’re feeling nostalgic, do go down the retro route with a Dior saddle bag or Fendi baguette. Iconic.

Still not convinced? Keep scrolling to shop even more fabulous designer handbags.

Lara Jean’s Outfits Are the Best Part of the TATBILB Sequel

“Hyperventilating” is one word you could use to describe our reaction when To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You came out. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better than Lana Condor hanging with a bunch of the cutest guys ever (seriously Noah Centineo, you’re hurting us), turns out we were wrong. Yup, there’s part of the movie we loved even more than Jordan Fisher’s nose crinkle: It’s the Lara Jean outfits.

Explain how a high school student can be that level of put together? She looks lovelier on a daily basis than most of will at our own weddings. But let’s not be too hard on ourselves, the girl had some help. Canadian retailer Aritzia provided tons of clothing to the film (snaps for Canada), and we’re willing to bet we’d all look just as fab if we had someone pulling looks for us. But wait, you do! Spoiler: It’s us.

Below, some of our favourite Lara Jean outfits from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You—and how to copy them, of course.

Valentine’s Day spending in the US (infographic)

13.02.2020 by Kristine Spure

The annual celebration of love is here, so get ready to be surrounded by a whole lot of roses, chocolates, and everything heart-shaped and pink.

Even if you’re not a big spender yourself, plenty of Americans are. In 2019, Americans spent a record amount on Valentine’s Day – more than $20 billion in total. Greeting cards, candy, and a night out have been among the most popular gifts on Valentine’s Day.

But what’s even more interesting is that Valentine’s Day actually originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast honoring the early saints named Valentinus. Take a look at our insight report for more shopping trends and historical facts:

Infogram Insights offers you a deeper look at relevant, newsworthy topics – visualized with Infogram. Every week, we explore the data that is forever changing our world. Sign up or log in to Infogram to make an infographic like the one in this post!

These Parisian shoes are getting me excited for spring

There’s nothing like a new pair of shoes to get me excited for the new season, and lucky for me, editor-approved Parisian bag brand Elleme is branching out into shoes. Launching next week, the designs embody what makes the handbags cult items: minimalism, addictive colours and a bit of a design twist.

Here’s everything you need to know about the shoes, from designer Jingjing Fan.

Are the shoes a natural extension of your bag line?

Yes, absolutely. Key details include the organic shape, the hand-stitched finishing, and some folded play with the leather. Launching our shoe line came very naturally, constantly working with leather artisans in Italy, we wanted our shoe line to be seamless from our bag collection. You can find our signature hand-stitched and folded designs, all with a buttery lambskin or cowhide leather.

What is the inspiration behind the shoes?

I simply wanted to create something that I would like wear. Paris is where I am based and where I get inspired a lot, just a quick stroll at the park or on streets around our neighbourhood Le Marais would get all ideas flowing. The most important thing for me is the comfort, there’s a saying that with a good pair of shoes, a women can conquer the world. My design philosophy stays the same: Simplicity, Timelessness and Singularity. We want the user to be comfortable, to be able to wear this pair of shoe over the years and also stand out discreetly.

The Baozi is one of your most popular bags, can you predict a shoe style that will become just as cult?

Through all the feedbacks we got from the media and our merchant partners, the Ficelle, Etoile, Sandal and Mule styles are going to be huge hits. We can already feel the interest through our Instagram posts, these are also the most popular style for influencers and celebrities.

How would the Elleme woman style the shoes?

Fold, Tresse and Stitch sandals are perfect for a vacation look – style them with a short, maxi print dress or a jumpsuit. While Etoile, Ficelle and Stitch Mules will look super chic with a midi skirt, wide leg paint or a cocktail dress.

What’s the next step for the brand?

We started with our store in Le Marais, so definitely will continue to look into our retail stores development around the world in 2020. We are currently looking at cities like Tokyo and Beijing, as we already have our first international store in Shanghai. In the UK we are very well represented at Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and Browns. In terms of product, shoes came very naturally for me, as I work with leather on a daily basis. Our next big development will be my first RTW collection, it’s a new challenge that we are very excited about, will keep you posted on its show date!

13 Black-Owned Fashion Brands to Shop Now

Black-owned beauty businesses have been on a well-applauded rise in recent years. But when it comes to diversity in fashion, Black-led labels, especially in the luxury market, still feel like a rarity—save a few exceptions. Olivier Rousteing has been creative director at Balmain for almost nine years (since he was 25!); in 2018 Virgil Abloh was tapped to run menswear at Louis Vuitton while also running his own label, Off-White. Shayne Oliver started cult label Hood By Air in 2006, went on hiatus in 2017, and just announced that he’s reinstating the brand after designing for Helmut Lang. Nigerian-born Duro Oluwu has been a London staple since 2004. Carly Cushnie has been in the game a minute, first with womenswear line Cushnie et Ochs, and currently, after splitting with her design partner, as CEO and creative director of the luxury label Cushnie. And, of course, we aren’t physically capable of forgetting the first Black woman to run a luxury label, Queen Rihanna of house Fenty.

Representation in fashion campaigns and runway shows has also gradually improved thanks to powerful conversations urging labels to hire models of different ages, races, body types and gender identities. But at the same time, every fashion week seems to unleash at least one or two offensive, appropriative designs that feel like a giant step backwards. (Looking at you, Burberry and Comme des Garçons.)

That’s why we’re pledging to put our dollars behind brands with talented creatives of colour at their helm, who are disrupting the industry and creating a new narrative—not just during Black History Month, but all year long.

From homegrown companies on the come up, to streetwear labels we’re saving up for, to international superstars dressing both Solange and Beyoncé Knowles, the range is real. Here are 13 fashion brands featuring hype Black designers who bring fresh perspectives, exquisite taste and ingenuity to the sartorial conversation. Plus, many of the makers are weaving their unique identities and diversity straight into their pieces.
