5 Unexpectedly Delightful Moments From London Fashion Week

LFW has wrapped and now showgoers must process all the sights they’ve seen. Some were better than the rest, and we’re running them down for your viewing pleasure (and shopping lists). Here are five of the most unexpected London Fashion Week moments that caught our eye:

All in

Tis the season for gender inclusivity. Men walked the runways for designers Molly Goddard and Richard Quinn—a first for both brands, which are known for outrageously proportioned and exquisitely detailed dresses.

Rixo made a print-lovers ideal match thanks to its union with Christian LaCroix, which is now available for purchase. And maximal label Halpern teamed up with J Brand for a denim capsule collection.

Glam-focused emerging label 16Arlington made the crowd clap extra loudly when it sent Lena Dunham down its catwalk; the Girls creator rocked a flounced mini-dress with aplomb.

Grand gesture

Is the tyranny of the tiny bag drawing to an end? If Burberry’s covetable outsized totes are any indication, we say RIP to ridiculously small satchels.

Super scene

At Tommy Hilfiger’s celeb-studded show at the Tate Modern, no catwalker drew more excited gasps than when Naomi Campbell appeared to open the show. The English supermodel wore sporty separates and a silk scarf, looking the most casual we’ve ever seen her.

Lena Dunham Makes Her Catwalk Debut at the 16Arlington Show at London Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week has wrapped for the Fall 2020 season, which means the fash pack hopped on a plane to London the very next day. London Fashion Week officially began today, with buzzy brand 16Arlington kicking things off on a high note.

The brand tapped actress Lena Dunham for its show, marking the first time she has appeared on a catwalk. Speaking with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Kikka Cavenati – one half of the design team behind the brand – explained that the relationship began when they were approached by Dunham’s stylist to dress her for the Once Upon A Time in Hollywood premiere. “I grew up watching Girls, so we were so excited about it. Lena takes fashion seriously, but has so much fun at the same time, and that’s what we do. We take what we do seriously but we also have fun with it. We just got on really well.” Marco Capaldo, the other half of the team, added, “She dresses for herself. We’ve been lucky to work with such powerful women from the beginning – women who are changing the world for a better place and Lena is a prime example of that. She embodies this spirit of power and intelligence. Everything we stand for as a brand, she ticks every box for us.”

Dunham modelled the finale look for the show, wearing a black and gold dress with leather bow detailing on the chest and a red-trimmed flounce hem.

Representation has long been important to 16Arlington, which has a particular focus on size inclusivity. At present, its pieces go up to a size 16 but plans are being made to expand the size range even further. Watch this space.
