As someone who wrote books himself, I know how much hard word, passion, and endurance a book project requests from its writer. So when my friends Julia and Gregor of Studio Faubel approached me last year to be part of their new book ‘Tiny Balcony’ I was all game to support them. Not only as a token of my friendship, but also because I really love my tiny urban jungle balcony. And having it featured in a book about tiny balconies was just a perfect match.
Last year in autumn they came to visit me and brought Ling Khor along, the amazing photographer of these images. We had a very fun afternoon shooting and since Ling was in full photography mode, she even snapped a few images of my home apart from the balcony. Today I am sharing a few images here. But I invite you to get a copy of ‘Tiny Balcony’ especially if you have a small balcony or terrace. Why you may wonder. Let me tell you.
‘Tiny Balcony’ is not only about nice balconies and its owners. It is about smart solutions to enhance your tiny balcony. And all of these ideas are actually simple DIYs with full step-by-step instructions how to create such solutions for your own balcony. Gregor of Studio Faubel built every solution himself and installed it on the balconies. In my case, the two blue frames were custom made by Gregor including a trellis and lots of space for extra plant pots. The blue idea came from Gregor himself as he wanted to visually extend the blue tiles in the adjacent kitchen. Smart guy! In total, the book features 12 different small balconies with different purposes. So there’s something for everyone!
The book will be published on May 6th by GU publishing and is available in German. For more details, check out their site HERE. I can’t wait to get hold of my copy soon! And now I am off to enjoy my tiny balcony!
