Driekwart van de coronapatiënten die overlijden is niet op de intensive care van een ziekenhuis geweest. Dat komt deels doordat verpleeghuisartsen of huisartsen in samenspraak met betreffende patiënt en familie besluiten om de zieke gelet op leeftijd of toestand niet 'in te sturen' naar de IC.
