‘Amazing Stories’ Trailer: Apple TV+ Reboots Steven Spielberg’s Cult-Favorite Anthology Series

Get ready for more “Amazing Stories,” because Apple TV+ has just unveiled a new trailer for the web series reboot of Steven Spielberg’s beloved 1980s anthology show. Executive-produced by Spielberg along with new blood in the form of Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Darryl Frank, and Justin Falvey, this version of “Amazing Stories” will premiere as five episodes on Apple TV+ on March 6. Watch the trailer below.

Developed in partnership between Universal TV and Amblin Television, “Amazing Stories” features familiar names and faces both in front of and behind the camera, aiming to “transport the audience to worlds of wonder through the lens of today’s most imaginative filmmakers, directors, and writers.” Episodes will include “The Rift” with Austen Stowell (“Bridge of Spies”), Kerry Bishé (“Halt and Catch Fire”), and Edward Burns, with Mark Mylod of “Game of Thrones” directing; “Signs of Life,” with Jacob Latimore (“The Chi”) and Sasha Lane (breakout of Andrea Arnold’s “American Honey”); “The Heat,” with E’myri Crutchfield (“Burning Cane”), Hailey Kilgore, and Shane Paul McGhie; and “The Cellar,” with Dylan O’Brien (“Teen Wolf”), and Victoria Pedretti (who played Love on the most recent season of “You”).

But perhaps most buzzed-about episode, and the one sure to turn on the waterworks for film fans, will be the episode “Dynoman and the Volt,” which is one of the final projects from the late Robert Forster, the screen veteran who died back in October of 2018. It’s written by Peter Ackerman and directed by Susanna Fogel, centered on Forster as a grandfather and his grandson bond over the power they discover in a ring ordered from the back of a comic book. Other directors on the series include Michael Dinner, Todd Holland, Chris Long, and Sylvain White.

“Amazing Stories” was originally to be run by Bryan Fuller and executive producer Hart Hanson, but they pulled out amid creative differences back in February of 2018, with Kitsis and Horowitz taking over. The reboot is yet another high-profile outing from Apple TV+, looking to tap into audiences as well as the awards space. The original “Amazing Stories” earned 12 Emmy nominations throughout its run from 1985 to 1987, winning five of them.

‘The Chi’ Star Tiffany Boone Breaks Silence on Series Exit Amid Misconduct Accusations Against Jason Mitchell

Tiffany Boone, star of creator Lena Waithe’s Showtime series “The Chi,” has made her first public statement about her departure from the show back in the fall of 2018 amid misconduct allegations she made against her co-star, Jason Mitchell. He was fired from the series in May 2019. Specific details related to the nature of the misconduct have yet to be disclosed. Boone, who next appears in the Amazon series “Hunters,” broke her silence via Instagram. See the post below.

“I wasn’t raised to quit jobs. Yet, a day came when I had to be brutally honest with myself about what I was willing to sacrifice just to have a job. Was I able to compromise my values, integrity, and happiness just to be employed?” said Boone, who left the show in November 2018.

“You don’t carelessly leave a ‘hit show’ that is praised by your community,” Boone said. “I deeply love Chicago and the people of that city who have embraced me. I felt honored and privileged to be a part of telling their story. The weight of what I was leaving behind felt like a ton, but the weight of my responsibility to speak up was even heavier. There were people who questioned my decision. How could I be sure I would work again, especially on a project of that magnitude? I wasn’t sure, but I had faith that once I took that leap I could be guided wherever I was supposed to go.”

Around the time of Mitchell’s firing, an investigation by The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Boone was not the only alleged victim of his misconduct. Ayanna Floyd Davis said, “As showrunner, I did everything I could to deal with his behavior, by speaking with the studio’s HR department multiple times and instructing one actress to call HR herself, before I became a target of his rage and inappropriateness, and had to report him to HR, as well.” Waithe has said she was not aware of Mitchell’s alleged behavior until the first season had wrapped. The third season of “The Chi” — which just released a trailer today — will premiere on Showtime on July 5.

‘I Am Not Okay With This’ Trailer: A Superhero Origin Story for the John Hughes Set

Netflix has unleashed the trailer for its latest comedy series aimed at teens and nostalgic adults, and it’s called “I Am Not Okay With This.” Based on a 2017 graphic novel by Charles Forsman, the series comes from the director/executive producer of Netflix cult favorite “The End of the F***ing World,” Jonathan Entwistle, and producers on the streamer’s wildly popular “Stranger Things,” a vibe that “I Am Not Okay With This” is clearly grooving to. And as a kind of superhero origin story set among grade-schoolers coming into puberty, it’s got a John Hughes vibe, also. Check it out below.

Unfolding across seven 30-minute episodes that will drop on February 26, the series stars Sophia Lillis (Beverly of the “It” franchise, and recently in HBO’s lurid Southern gothic “Sharp Objects”), Wyatt Oleff (also from “It”), Sofia Bryant (“The Good Wife”), and Kathleen Rose Perkins (“You’re the Worst,” “Episodes”), Aidan Wojtak-Hissong (“Falling Water”), and Richard Ellis (“Veronica Mars”). It’s the irreverent origin story that follows a teenage girl, Sydney (Lillis) as she navigates the ups, downs, ins, and outs of high school, all while on top of that dealing with her blossoming sexuality and suddenly emerging superpowers involving telekinesis. That wrinkle in the plot manages to situate the series firmly in the genre of Supergirl Goes Through High School Hell, originated, of course, by Stephen King’s “Carrie.”

“I Am Not Okay With This” is co-created by director/executive producer Entwistle with Christy Hall. Additional executive producers come from both film and TV, including Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum,” “Free Guy”), Dan Levine (producer on “Arrival”), Dan Cohen (“Kin”), and Josh Barry (“Salem”).

Recently, Netflix debuted another teen comedy for young audiences, “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You,” a followup to the hit original film. Also coming to Netflix soon is the America Ferrera-produced series “Gentefied,” about a group of Mexican-American cousins in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights, the new season of “Altered Carbon,” the secret-agent series “Queen Sono,” and surely many more as the streamer continues to drop original movies and television series like there’s no tomorrow. “I Am Not Okay With This” already looks destined to be another Netflix favorite.
