Change your room with Bemz Covers

Quite often the sofa is the central element in a living room. It is the cozy place of the home, the nook where you unwind after a long day or simply spend a lazy Sunday. We sleep on the sofa, sit with friends, we read, we watch movies and binge watch Netflix series, we knit, we eat – basically we spend quite some time and great moments of life on our sofas. Also, often our sofas become a beloved piece of furniture and it is not so easy to part with them. Today’s story is all about the love for a sofa and how we can keep on having our great moments on it – with the little help of Bemz!







My friend Ben has a sectional sofa, to be precise the KARLSTAD sofa from IKEA. He loved the shape and the colour, but the original cover is beginning to show some signs of good wear and tear. And that is ok! After five years it is not a shame to see some bleached out parts that were exposed to more sunlight, some thinner sections where there was lots of sitting. It is normal. But it is not necessary to keep it that way. And I am not talking about tossing your sofa! Instead, just give it a fresh up with a new cover and change the look of your living room! How about this!?







Nowadays we can be happy about smart brands that offer covers for IKEA sofas – and most of you will know who I am talking about: Bemz. This Swedish brand has been around for quite a few years and has successfully prolonged the lives of many IKEA sofas. Their range of custom covers for IKEA sofas, armchairs and cushions is almost endless from fine cotton, over linen, velvet and recycled materials – all of them made to order in Europe and machine washable. Bemz has gradually extended its range to covers for other IKEA furniture pieces and accessories such as chairs and headpieces for beds as well as curtains and sofa legs.







In order to show you how a Bemz cover for IKEA furniture can change the look of your room, we have opted to swap the green cover with two velvet Bemz sofa covers: the Zaragoza Vintage Velvet in the color ‘Acorn’ and the Simply Velvet in ‘Moss Green’. Moreover, we chose black Kastell sofa legs. The theme remains earthy as you see, but let’s see the results!

Changing the sofa covers and sofa legs is really not complicated. However, if you have a bigger sectional sofa like in this case, it might come in handy to have a friend or two around to help with disassembling the sofa and properly stretching the covers. In my Instagram stories I am sharing two time lapse videos to show you the process in super speed. I will be biased now: This cover is my absolute favorite! I love the amazing touch and feel of the vintage velvet, the color is just amazing too – with a lovely shimmer that seems to play with the light. The Vintage Velvet materials is sturdy and a tad glamorous with a shiny, vintage look. And the color ‘Acorn’ is just perfect. It is truly earthy and somehow fits the season (and my friend’s living room for that matter).

This cosy velvet cover is warm, lush and super soft – it creates an instantly warm and hygge atmosphere in the room. The ‘Moss Green’ color is a deep and rich green, recalling northern forests and moss covered paths in the woods. This cover is stain-proof and perfect for anyone who loves a natural look in their home. We discovered that this cover is in perfect harmony with a few cushions in the aforementioned cover, Zaragoza Vintage Velvet in ‘Acorn’. The look is just perfect, don’t you agree?







Updating the IKEA Karlstad sectional sofa with Bemz covers was truly a game changer, they totally transformed the room even though we remained in an earthy and bohemian atmosphere here, the new velvet Bemz covers makes it feel a bit more luxurious and cosy. Additionally, I think it is much more eco-conscious to opt for a new cover instead of throwing away an entire sofa just because the cover is too worn or you are bored of its look.

Serene and Plant Filled Living Room

I can’t believe it but it’s been almost two years that I have been living in my apartment now. On one hand it feels like forever, on the other hand it feels crazy cause it’s not such a long time compared to my tiny, old rooftop apartment (where I had lived for 10 years). Still I felt it was about time to give my living room a little update. And I admit, there was just a perfect excuse to do so: my brand new handwoven rug from Tisca!

Do you remember my trip to Romania recently? I went there with a bunch of friends and fellow bloggers following an invitation of Tisca to discover their rug manufacturing in Transylvania (you can see and read about it HERE). Moreover, I was a pretty lucky bastard to be able to choose a new rug for my home. And I did so: I picked the stylish Barrio model in a natural off-white color. And wow, the rug is really a game changer. It transformed my living room from a very bohemian/nomadic style into a sleek Scandi-boho version. Don’t you agree?

So while the rug set the tone in the living room, I played around with some other furniture pieces and decorative items too. I exchanged the big mango wood coffee table for my Finn Juhl Tray coffee table and paired it with the Eames Occasional Table. I think this combination looks ace with the Tisca rug, my vintage Finn Juhl Diplomat chair and the leather sofa. Even though I have reduced the items in the room, I added a new design icon: The Butterfly Stool in palisander by Sori Yanagi that I found on Flinders. A while ago I secured myself the iconic Flowerpot lamp from Flinders too (see it here).  I love the stool’s sculptural look and the palisander color matching the rest of the interior (and some of my Brazilian souvenirs).

My general idea for this living room update was a somewhat more serene, plant-filled and cozy atmoshpere. I always like to add a bunch of fresh flowers – even more if the color of the flowers match my interior styling like in this case. Due to my lack of time during the day I must admit that I rely on a good quality flower subscription – it is just so much easier for me. This flower arrangement looks so beautiful and seems to be customized for my dining area.

I hope you like the little update and maybe you even feel inspired to change up things at home too? I mean why not! At least for me it is always fun to do a little restyling and feel refreshed and cozy at home! Have fun!
