Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi has reacted to India Today TV’s explosive report about the exploitation of minors in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot and demanded a high-level probe into the incident.
On Tuesday, India Today TV exposed how minor girls were being forced to sell their bodies in Chitrakoot in order to receive wages for the work they do in the region’s mines.
The report sent shockwaves across the nation. Now Kailash Satyarthi has also condemned the horrific cycle of sexual abuse and savagery in Chitrakoot.
The child rights activist took to Twitter and urged UP CM Yogi Adityanath to initiate a high-level independent inquiry into the matter.

The India Today investigation into the hellish conditions for poor girls in Chitrakoot has created widespread outrage with people demanding the UP government take strict action in the case.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also taken cognizance of the television report on Chitrakoot and written to the DM of Chitrakoot and the UP Child Rights Commission.
The NCPCR has called for a probe in the matter and asked the local authorities to file an FIR in the matter and submit a report on the action taken.
India Today TV found that minor girls from tribal families in Chitrakoot are forced to work in illegal mines and stone crushers for meagre wages to survive. When they go to work, the contractors and middlemen force these girls to let them sexually exploit them.
The girls say if they refuse they will not get the minimum wage they get and their families will go hungry. While their families are also aware of the exploitation, they say they are helpless and are forced to send their daughters to the mines irrespective of the abuse.
The local administration said they were unaware of such a nexus operating in the region.
However, reacting to India Today TV's report, the district magistrate ordered a magisterial probe into the case. The Uttar Pradesh government has also swung into action and promised prompt action.
