I’ll be honest with you guys: I spend a disgusting amount of my day virtually sifting through a metric fuckton of clothing all available to cop via the modern miracle of the world wide web. It can be a bit overwhelming. These days, it’s difficult to keep track of what’s dropping where, and when (even if you’re a bona fide fashion enthusiast). Well, wake the fuck up people. Class is in session, and Professor Christophe Lemaire is about to school us all on Balling on a Budget 101: Affordable Flexing. Lemaire got his PhD, if you will, designing womenswear for some little old French fashion house named Hermès, and received tenure (if you’ll indulge the analogy further) after his own eponymous collection consistently earned rave reviews from, and made repeat customers of, some of the most stylish guys and gals around.
Since 2016, Lemaire’s also been designing a collaborative collection with Uniqlo, and there’s good news on that front: the latest spring/summer drop is live today. Lemaire imbues each collection with a distinctive sense of refined, subtle luxury and his signature eye for silhouette, all at a price point on par with the rest of Uniqlo’s offerings. Man, if all my classes were taught by Dr. Lemaire I’d have been a straight A student for life. Stay in school, kids.

Knitted Long-Sleeve Polo Shirt
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $39.90
Big «cantankerous grandparent» energy here, in the best way possible. The only fine-gauge knit you’ll need this season, done up in a creamy cotton.
Cuban Short-Sleeve Shirt
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $39.90
Ditto this camp collar Cuban shirt.
Work Straight Pants
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $39.90
Lemaire is a modern master of silhouette, and the trousers in each of his collections show it. Plus, these streamlined carpenter pants cost just about the same as a pair from Carhartt.
Wide-Fit Pleated Tapered Pants
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $39.90
It’s the details that truly separate Lemaire’s designs from other options. Yes, these pants might be a bit baggier than what you’re used to (they’re pleated, for fuck’s sake) but they also happen to be cut perfectly.
Wide-Fit Tapered Pants
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $39.90
There’s a matching jacket to these pants coming up in the mix. Wear the set as a full suit with almost any top and you’re good to go this spring.
Military Jersey Long-Sleeve Shirt
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $49.90
Lemaire’s work is replete with subtle references to the military’s lasting influence on the look of modern menswear, often through details like the slightly oversized pockets on this enviable long-sleeve shirt.
Middle Gauge V-Neck Long-Sleeve Cardigan
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $49.90
I’m here for the great cardigan resurgence of 2020 in a huge way, and, as per usual, Uniqlo U has us all covered with one of the best options yet…
Blocktech 2-Way Tote Bag
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $49.90
… along with the perfect all-purpose carryall, in the same shade of cobalt blue.
Denim Work Jacket
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $69.90
The washed-out blues and statement camp collar lend this jacket some serious throwback appeal without veering too far into the realm of ’60s cosplay.
Tailored Jacket
Uniqlo U uniqlo.com $99.90
If you’re looking to experiment with the slightly boxy, less rigidly tailored suiting silhouette that’s been all over the runways the last few seasons, look no further than Lemaire’s take on the style.
