Strike Announced For The Bakerloo Line Later This Month

Bakerloo

The RMT has announced a tube strike taking place on the Bakerloo line later this month.

The reason for the strike is changes to the timetable, which the RMT claims "place operators under intolerable levels of personal stress".

The ballot produced a result of 95% of driver members voting to strike. The dates for the strike are rather start stop, from 11.59pm on Friday 21 February until 11.59pm on Saturday 22 February and then again from 11.59pm on Sunday 23 February until 11.59pm on Monday 24 February. So essentially it will be the Saturday and Monday that have the most affected service.

RMT General Secretary, Mick Cash said:

Drivers voted overwhelmingly for action in this dispute which is all about the management imposing timetable changes on the Bakerloo line without any serious recognition of the stress impact on the operators expected to implement them.

We hoped we were making headway in talks with LU but our reps have now taken the view that the progress has been too little and too slow.

The bottom line is that you cannot place intolerable stress and pressure on tube drivers that impacts on their safety-critical role and that is what this dispute is all about. The union remains available for talks.
