7 Street Style Trends We've Seen All Over London Fashion Week

There's no denying it's been a rainy one this London Fashion Week (thanks, storm Dennis), but nothing can stop the fashion set from trotting across roads en route to shows in outfits worthy of instant copying. How do our favourite street style stars combat the downpour, the winds, the blah of the grey? With big suits, and even bigger boots. Oh, and one major colour. Us fashion-y types love a challenge... and in London what's a little rain?

So which new trends emerged at London Fashion Week? Actually, none... sort of. Which is not the damp's fault. The non-trend trend continues its reign as showgoers opt for timeless pieces and silhouettes, along with evolved versions of outfits they wore last fashion month, which is something we love to see. As conversations of upcycling and clothing swaps rage in the BFC Positive Fashion Showspace thanks to leaders like designer Patrick McDowell, we love to see that mindset begin to trickle out and be reflected in the street style looks as well. 

On the minimalist side, beiges and browns continue to dominate in loose shapes, baggy knits, and Bottega bag choices. Those mega big Chelsea boots, worn last year with puff-sleeved dresses, are still as joyously popular as ever and have been worn in a fun new way. Which makes us think that the big trend this season then is re-styling; especially those timeless pieces (like a Bottega bag or a gold chain) that you might have invested in last year. For you maximalists, we've also seen some fabulous trends that were big last year stay at the forefront in fun new ways too. It's no surprise that fashion's favourite sensible footwear choice made a major appearance this week. We love seeing the new styling of it though: tucked into the trousers at the ankle. You can really wear these gorgeous boots with just about anything, which make them a great investment piece and will last you years and years.

Of course, the popularity of trench coats this week is also no real shock considering the endless downpour. We've enjoyed spotting the various takes on the classic trench: from textured fabrics to patterned lapels. Since this is a forever piece, we feel it's fun to have a classic and a fun one ready for rainy London days. 

Green continues to be a favourite colour choice after racing ahead as the fan favourite in 2019. This year, the style set are going one step further with bold green prints, like floral and animal print spotted outside the Rejina Pyo show, and fancy shapes loosely styled like the stars of Little Women. We love to use the power of maximalism to fight the ennui of gloomy days.

Tonal outfits, specifically suits, are well and truly a fashion week staple, being equal parts comfortable, chic and easy. This is a look for the humble fashion queen looking to pop between fashion shows, the office, a Pizza Express lunch, and after work cocktails like a breeze. Trainers work like a charm, but a fun boot to kick it up a bit works too. 

No sunshine? No problem. The colour yellow was the go-to this London Fashion Week as our defence against the dark clouds and how we loved to see it. It was most popular in coat form but honestly, we're inspired to go sunnier with trousers and accessories too. Be bright!

As upcycling (transforming discarded garments into new, re-used pieces) becomes an increasingly talked-about option among sustainable designers, street style trends have reflected the aesthetic in split-tone pieces that look like they've been patched together. As upcycling becomes a bit more mainstream, we're sure we'll see a lot more of this patched-together look become popular. 

The vintage-inspired coat silhouette featuring oversized fur or shearling trimmed cuffs and lapels was first made famous again by Saks Potts. The shape has since been echoed in brands like Shrimps, Kitri, and House of Sunny, each producing a cult favourite piece meant to be worn season after season.
