Goodyear Welted Kenton Pacer Boots – $109.49 w/ WEEKEND ($248)

I just don’t understand how this is sustainable.

Ever since the Jenna & Frank J. Crew-pocalypse, a lot of us have started to look more carefully and more suspiciously at J. Crew’s wares. Overall suiting quality seems to have gone down (see their wool/poly “essentials” line). They swing and miss just as much as before (bucket hats! bucket hats everywhere!), and little brother J. Crew Factory is now less than an afterthought.

Yet they still crank out some extraordinarily well crafted, incredibly good looking pieces, at plenty fair prices. Such as these Alden-Indy-Like, Goodyear Welted, Kenton Pacer boots.

And then nobody seems to buy them, and they end up on mega-clearance at a price that has to have J. Crew’s accountants grinding their teeth into dust.

These might not be $250 boots, but they aren’t $110 boots either (if that makes sense). Goodyear welted, oddly good leather (I thought it was Horween CXL at first glance and touch), and they feel like they’re gonna last and last.

Now at a price that’s not much more than a pair of flimsy Nike Killshots? Are you kidding?

Citizen Watches AT0200-05E – $96.99 (usually $120 – $150)

Sure. The day that we publish a list of our favorite quartz watches, Amazon happens to put a GLARING omission up for mega sale.

Casual for sure, but the build quality plus the fact that it’s powered by light means it can be a maintenance free go-to for years and years to come. Vintage military looks. 39mm case. Textured, knurled crown. Even the strap has metal grommets instead of cheap, punched out holes (some don’t like the strap, so, you might have to swap it out for something softer/more “civilized.”) Chronograph function is simple and intuitive. Water resistance is 100m, which is better than you’d think for a field-style.

It usually goes for the mid $100s, but for some reason Amazon has put it up for sale as a one-day deal. Deal expires at midnight pacific time. Don’t want the chronograph? The non-chrono, 37.2mm version is on sale for $85 today too.

Made in the USA Original Chippewa 6″ Service Boots – $144.95 ($280)

Frankly, my “this has to be good to be true” spidey sense is tingling. I can’t recall these things going for this low… ever? Maybe?

Sure, the pictures on Chippewa’s own site aren’t as pretty as they could (should?) be. But, these appear to be the same boots that many of us know and love.

Cordovan, Tan, “Crazyhorse”, and Black.
Normally $220 – $280 via Amazon.

This price just seems oddly good. But, I did some digging, and model # 1901M25 does really seem to be, the much enjoyed “cordovan” SHADE of cowhide, which has plenty of sizes left at post time. Full review can be found here. It is not cordovan leather. Cordovan is simply the name of the reddish-brown color option. But it looks pretty darn good in person.

Made in the USA. Vibram soles. Goodyear welted. Now… $145? Really?

Nordstrom: adidas Stan Smith – $60 ($80)

Here’s where I should be writing something pithy and observant about the ubiquitous, extraordinarily versatile Stan Smith sneaker.

But I think they speak for themselves.

Alright, I’ll make a (small) effort: They go with everything. They’re comfortable. They’re surprisingly well made. And the branding is subtle and timeless.

They’re also super hard to find on sale, especially for upwards of $20 off like they are, for now, at Nordstrom.

Price matched so someone found this sale somewhere else (I have no idea where,) called Nordy customer service, and Uncle Nordy then dropped the price on their stock temporarily. No word on how long it’ll last.

White with navy accents appears to be your (only) color choice here. But, that’s pretty much all I personally wear. In terms of sizing, Nordstom suggests half a size up? I don’t understand that at all. A 10.5 fits my normally 10.5 feet just fine. But if you’re worried, order two sizes and send the other pair back for free.
