SPAIN'S Ministry of Health has announced 8,959 new cases of coronavirus this week with 3,607 of them in the last 24 hours and 40 deaths.

Fernando Simón, director of the Centre for Coordination of Emergencies and Health Alerts of the Ministry of Health said "Of the cases reported in the last 14 days, the geographical distribution continues. Thirty per cent of the cases are concentrated in Madrid, and 13 per cent in Catalonia. Aragon remains around 3 per cent. The deceased as of today are 40, and in the last seven days, 191 deceased.

Andalucia has exceeded, for the first time, more than 1,000 infected by coronavirus in one day. Specifically, 1,038 coronavirus positives by PCR, the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the Junta de Andalucia has announced that it plans to begin vaccination against the virus at the end of December or early January when it expects 250,000 to 300,000 doses to arrive to begin vaccinating people at higher risk.


In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, 488,513 people have been infected and 29,234 have died, according to official Ministry of Health data.
