Delhi reports 3,257 fresh coronavirus cases, highest single-day spike in 2.5 months

With 3,257 fresh cases of coronavirus, Delhi on Sunday reported its highest single-day spike in infections in over 75 days. The previous highest spike in Delhi was on June 26 when the national capital recorded 3,460 Covid-19 cases.

After the 3,257 new coronavirus cases, Delhi’s active case tally has mounted to 20,909. The national capital also reported 29 deaths and 2,188 recoveries in the last 24 hours. A total of 36,046 tests were conducted.

Meanwhile, the number of containment zones in Delhi has topped the 1,000-mark. There are 1,076 containment zones in Delhi at present.

As per the latest information, 11,010 patients are currently in home isolation in Delhi.

On Saturday, Delhi reported 2,973 fresh Covid-19 after which its total Covid-19 case tally stood at 1,88,193.

Delhi has been seeing a spike in daily case numbers for the past few days. This comes against the backdrop of weeks of witnessing a declining trend.

On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the people of Delhi not to panic seeing the rising number of Covid-19 cases. He claimed Covid-19 cases in the national capital are rising because the Delhi government has increased the number of tests.

«We have doubled testing, started testing at markets, bus stands, Mohalla Clinics etc. Test, test, test. Isolate infected people and provide them good treatment. I have told officers not to worry if the numbers increase due to multi-fold testing (sic),» Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet.

In another tweet, the Delhi CM said there is a sufficient number of hospital beds for Covid-19 patients. «Presently, there are 14,000 beds available in Delhi, of which only 5,000 are occupied,» he said.
