The Union health ministry data, updated earlier on Friday morning, had put the Covid-19 tally at 39,36,747. Since then data reported by the states has taken the figure past 40 lakh or 4 million. The government website is updated at 8 am every morning and will reflect the fresh figures on Saturday morning.
On Friday, Delhi reported 2,914 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of people infected with the novel coronavirus in Delhi to 1,85,220, according to the Delhi government’s health department. 13 more people died from coronavirus in Rajasthan as 1,570 fresh cases surfaced, pushing the infection numbers to 87,797 in the state, according to a health bulletin.
In Maharashtra, 19,218 new Covid-19 cases were reported. It was the highest single-day spike in the state so far, taking its tally to 8,63,062 on Friday. The state reported 378 fatalities during the day, 38 of them from Pune city, taking the death toll to 25,964, said a health department official.
India has been reporting a significantly high number of Covid-19 cases on a daily basis. In the span of 24 hours ending Friday, 8 am, India reported 83,341 fresh cases. The death toll, by government figures, stands at 68,472.
