President of the US Donald Trump took the decision to wear a face mask for the first time in public since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

The president wore the face covering as he visited a military hospital close to Washington on Saturday to meet wounded soldiers and health care workers. He felt it was an appropriate place to wear a mask and claimed as he left the White House "I've never been against masks but I do believe they have a time and a place".

Trump seems to have suddenly changed his view on wearing masks, now stating to Fox News that "I'm all for masks", whereas previously he refused to wear one and even mocked his rival, the Democrat, Joe Biden, for wearing one.

Now the president says he likes how the masks look on him and compared his new image to that of the fictional masked hero, The Lone Ranger.

Perhaps his liking for the face-covering comes after the US hit a new daily record of coronavirus infections, 66,528, taking the total number of cases for the country up to 3.29 million.
