The Story Behind London's Most Colourful Bus Stops

London’s most colourful bus stop signs can be found in Trafalgar Square, but do you know the story behind them?

The rainbow-hued signs were installed in 2017 as part of the capital’s Pride celebrations. As it does most years, TfL gave a multi-coloured makeover to many parts of the transport network, including hire bikes and tube station roundels.

While other rainbow nods have long disappeared, the psychedelic bus stop signs live on, a permanent homage to London’s LGBTQ+ community. Find bus stop C on the eastern side of Trafalgar Square, opposite St Martin in the Fields church, and bus stop D, just across the road from its colourful cousin.

The nearby pedestrian crossings also salute the LGBTQ+ community. In 2016, the green pedestrian lights surrounding Trafalgar Square were replaced with green symbols celebrating same-sex relationships, and they too have were made permanent.
