8 Niche Styling Tricks I'm Going to Try This Spring

A new season makes for the perfect opportunity to switch up your style and try something new. After all, trying out new looks and seeing what works is all part of the fun of getting dressed. However, even we sometimes run out of ideas on new ways to style our favourite pieces or simply don’t have the energy to think up ingenious accessory hacks. As such, we turned to Instagram.

With spring fast approaching, we consulted with some of our favourite digital dressers to create a dossier of easy styling tricks that anyone can try, using pieces you likely already have in your wardrobes. So without further ado, here are eight niche styling tricks that’ll update your existing wares in a flash.

If, like us, you’ve grown tired of wearing jumpers as tops for four straight months, shake it up by adding a statement blouse (a ruffled collar is essential) underneath. Honestly, it raises the game of literally any jumper in a way no roll-neck could do.

Silky scarves are set to be one of 2020’s biggest accessory trends, and we love how Zeena’s styled hers in the fashion of a pussy-bow. Another easy way to breathe new life into your basic knitwear.

It’s not the newest trick in the book, but it is one that keeps popping back up: pairing a big silk or velvet bow with a simple, minimalist outfit. Sure, you can invest in a designer piece, but you can also find loads of them on Etsy. That, or simply take ribbon handles off fancy shopping bags.

Make like Eni and layer a crop top over an oversize shirt to create a cool new silhouette. Look for knitted styles that’ll keep you slightly cosier until spring truly rolls around.

The genius who started this look again last year deserves a prize because essentially, this styling trick allows you to carry that extra just-in-case layer (hot on the tube, cold at the office) around in the chicest possible way. Brilliant!

Previously deemed uncool, the exposed sock-and-shoe combo has made a firm comeback and works to add a little air of mystery to any outfit. Choose a colour-pop hue with simple black loafers for the chicest way to try the trend.

Cardigans are still reigning supreme on the style circuit at the moment, so it’s little wonder that Instagram’s elite dressers are testing out new ways to wear them. Right now, instead of unbuttoning the collar, people are leaving the hems of their cardigans undone, flashing their midriffs in the process.

Thanks to a slew of brands, silky, pyjama-style separates have become totally acceptable to wear outdoors with silk trousers proving the comfiest option. Pair with a black blazer, white tee and gold chain. Voilà!
