Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was just drawn even further into the Ukraine scandal and, subsequently, the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

Pompeo was reportedly one of the Trump administration officials listening in on Trump’s phone call in July with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky that spurred the inquiry, a State Department official said Monday, per The Wall Street Journal. The inquiry is based on allegations that Trump pressured Zelensky into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, during the phone call.

Pompeo had previously said he had not read a complaint about the phone call made by an anonymous whistleblower in its entirety, but that, to his knowledge, the actions of State Department officials had be “entirely appropriate and consistent” with the White House’s attempts to improve Washington’s relationship with Kyiv. Pompeo had not previously mentioned that he was a participant in the phone call.

Pompeo was subpoenaed by three House committees Friday for documents related to the impeachment inquiry. He has until Oct. 4 to produce them. Read more at The Wall Street Journal.
