New from Mido – the Ocean Star Diver 600

Constructed in 1841, the Europa Point Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula, at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. Fully automated since 1994, it is painted white, with a wide red horizontal band in the middle, and has a bright white light that occults every ten seconds. Its powerful beam of light is an extremely important point of reference for sailors approaching the shores of the Iberian Peninsula. Launched in 1944, Mido’s Ocean Star collection celebrates the safety and reliability of this iconic monument. Just like the lighthouse, the watches from this series help those who want to conquer the ocean. Today Mido is proud to announce the latest addition to the collection – the Ocean Star Diver 600.

Mido’s first ever 600m dive watch

Water resistant up to a pressure of 60 bar (600 m/1968 ft), the new Ocean Star Diver 600 is Mido’s most advanced diving watch yet. Although not officially certified, the timepiece is made to comply with the ISO 6425 standard for diving watches. The latter provides minimum requirements for mechanical diver’s watches such as the presence of a unidirectional bezel, adequate readability/visibility in total darkness, magnetic and shock resistance and other. In addition to these features, the new Ocean Star Diver 600 also incorporates a helium release valve. This valve prevents water pressure damage to the watch when diving at extreme depths.

The Mido Ocean Star Diver 600 comes in two versions: one featuring a stainless steel case, blue dial and blue bezel, and the other with black dial, black bezel and black PVD stainless steel case. Both watches are 43.5mm wide and feature solid case backs with a polished starfish in relief – the symbol of Mido’s Ocean Star collection. At 9 o’clock, there is a small incision on the side of the case that releases any excess water trapped inside the rotating bezel mechanism to prevent corrosion. Across it, at 3 o’clock, there is a large screw-down crown decorated with the Mido logo. Like a true diving piece, the watch is equipped with a unidirectional bezel. The satin and mirror polished blue/black ceramic bezel features engraved numerals filled with Super-LumiNova Grade X®. According to the Swiss brand, this special luminous material is brighter and last longer than the standard Super-LumiNova.

The watch is available in two versions

Both dial options feature polished applied indexes and diamond-cut hour and minute hands. The layout is the same on both dials: hours, minutes and seconds in the center, and date at 3 o’clock. Beating inside each Ocean Star Diver 600 model is the Caliber 80 Si with 25 jewels. Based on ETA C07.821, this exceptional COSC-certified chronometer movement combines a large autonomy of up to 80 hours of power reserve with exceptional accuracy and shock resistance, thanks to the silicone balance-spring. The self-winding movement oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Completing the watch we have a stainless steel bracelet for the blue-dialed model and a black rubber strap for the black PVD stainless steel version. Both pieces are reasonably priced at $1,700.

The highly innovative Super-LumiNova Grade X luminous material enables the diving time to be read with extreme accuracy, whatever the visibility conditions
